Brooches and pins, mostly estate
Brooches are where the most interesting older work tends to survive, because they were made when a brooch was a serious piece of jewelry and they get worn gently. Most of what we have is estate — bought one piece at a time, so the case is never the same twice.
A brooch is also the easiest piece to wear differently from how it was intended. Several of ours have been converted to pendants at the bench, and that conversion is usually reversible if you would rather keep the option.
Can a brooch be converted to a pendant?
Often, yes — it is bench work, and in many cases it can be done so the brooch fitting still works afterwards. We will tell you before we start whether a particular piece allows it.
Can you repair an old brooch pin or clasp?
Yes. Pin stems, catches and hinges are everyday repairs at our bench, including on pieces bought elsewhere.
