In 2025, the most popular engagement ring designs are solitaire, halo, and three-stone rings. It’s no surprise that the top is still the diamond solitaire. Solitaire rings are the most classic and widely chosen. It has been that way ever since Charles Tiffany introduced the Tiffany setting way back in the 1800s.
As far as the diamond is concerned, round brilliant diamonds are still the most popular. In fact, when you think of a diamond, you’re probably imagining that shape. Having said that, oval and cushion cuts are gaining popularity. Oval isn’t all that surprising but cushion cut is an older style, and its revival surprised me in a very pleasant way.
Okay, let’s look at the three top rings:
• Solitaire Rings
These rings feature a single, prominent center diamond. They’re a timeless classic. Strictly speaking it’s one diamond and the band but there are people who get a “solitaire” with diamonds also set into the band. Is it really a solitaire? Maybe. Maybe not. If you love it, who cares?
• Halo Rings:
A halo ring is just like a solitaire ring. However, it features a center diamond surrounded by a circle of smaller diamonds. Unlike a solitaire, you can get as ostentatious as you’d like with the halo rings. You can fill the band with stones. You can add other gems as well. If you have the center diamond surrounded by the smaller diamonds, it’s a halo.
• Three-Stone Rings:
These rings feature a center diamond with two smaller side stones. The side stones are often sapphires, rubies, or peridots. Three-stone rings often represent important things to the couple. Past, present, future. Love, honor, obey. Love, trust, respect. There are endless possibilities, and the only important question is what fits for the couples.
