The Rolex Awards for Enterprise

The Rolex Awards for Enterprise are part of Rolex's Perpetual Planet Initiative, which supports individuals and organizations that use science and technology to address environmental challenges. The Rolex Awards for Enterprise have had a significant impact on the world by supporting innovative projects that improve the environment, science methodology, and human well-being. The awards are given for innovative projects that aim to improve the lives of people and the sustainability of the planet.

Here are some examples of people who’ve won. Denica Riadini-Flesch created a sustainable farm-to-closet clothing chain. Inza Koné for protected a biodiversity-rich forest in Côte d'Ivoire, the Ivory Coast.  Constantino Aucca Chutas developed community-led reforestation in the Andes. Liu Shaochuang created a process for tracking wild camels with satellites to establish conservation zones.

The projects involved have impacts. Projects have led to the planting of millions of trees, the protection of endangered species and ecosystems, and the discovery of new species. In addition, they’ve improved health and health science. Projects have included the development of new technologies and the creation of a medical computer tablet to help diagnose heart disease, for example. The awards for enterprise have recognized the way projects can transform lives and communities. For example, projects have included the creation of a radio station to advise farmers, the development of a smartphone-based eye examination kit, and the construction of artificial glaciers to help farmers with water shortages. 

The program rewards thinking about things in a new way. It recognizes innovative thinking and supports individuals who demonstrate a spirit of enterprise and leadership. Whether helping an established scientist with an established company or a young entrepreneur just starting to make an impact, the Rolex Awards for Enterprise assist in the development of solutions to problems that too often seem insurmountable.

As far as I’m concerned, I’m proud to have a Rolex on my wrist.
