The Gift of Rolex

An American cliché says that a person gets a gold watch after working for forty years and retiring. The watch is the perfect commemoration of the dedication given to the company, and the company usually puts some sort of inscription on the watch as well. Do you know anyone who actually got a gold watch that way? I don’t. It was far more popular in the middle of the last century, I think.

However, I can tell you that if you can afford to get a Rolex as a gift, you’re going to have a hard time topping that. Rolex watches are generally considered excellent gifts. The reputation for luxury, high quality, and timeless design makes the brand a classy gift. A Rolex is an over-the-top kind of a present that somehow (just because of the kind of stately air of the brand) doesn’t seem over-the-top at all.

Having said that, a Rolex is an expensive enough and prestigious enough gift that you need to think very carefully about it.

You need to think carefully even if you can easily afford it. Rolex is a widely recognized luxury brand, making a Rolex watch a symbol of achievement and success. How would someone feel receiving it? If you buy it for someone who doesn’t have similarly expensive accessories, how might that impact them? You know the old cliché about being uncomfortable because someone gives you a gift that far outshines the gift you gave them?

Well, a Rolex will do that.

To me, a Rolex is a gift for people in your life who are very important to you. Your significant other. Family members experiencing special milestones. Just like it’s not a good idea to give an expensive item of jewelry casually, it’s not a good idea to give a Rolex casually. It makes a fine gift but make sure it’s an appropriate gift as well.

If you’re looking for a pre-owned Rolex in San Diego, I can help. Give me a call and if I don’t have what you’re looking for in stock, I can still probably find it. Call me or just drop by my San Diego showroom. You’ll be glad you did.
