Rolex and the Perpetual Planet Initiative

The Rolex Perpetual Planet Initiative is a long-term commitment to support organizations and individuals who use science to address environmental and human challenges. The initiative was launched in 2019 and focuses on three areas. Ocean conservation, wilderness protection, and preserving the living world are Rolex’s goals for the initiative, and part of all of that is the increased awareness that comes from having the brand’s name involved in the causes.

Rolex's history is connected to the word perpetual. The company's Oyster Perpetual watch has a self-winding mechanism. The idea is that the watch should be able to run perpetually, and that’s how we want the Earth, too, right? Rolex has a long history of supporting explorers and organizations that use science to understand and address environmental challenges.  Rolex aims to raise awareness of environmental issues and inspire the next generation of explorers, scientists, and conservationists.

The initiative includes partnerships with organizations like National Geographic, Under the Pole expeditions, and Coral Gardeners.  They also deal with individuals. For example, the Rolex Awards for Enterprise. Every two years, Rolex chooses five individuals for projects that focus on the environment, science and health, applied technology, cultural heritage, and exploration. The Rolex Laureates receive funding to implement their projects and become part of the Rolex Laureates network.

Rolex also helps non-established individuals. Rolex supports future generations of explorers, scientists, and conservationists through grants and scholarships as well as internships and opportunities for hands-on work on bettering the world and making it more sustainable.

That’s what perpetual is all about. So, when you’re wearing a Rolex, you’re wearing a brand that takes its place in the world seriously. That feels pretty good to me.

Even it you don’t want a Rolex, take a look at their philanthropic efforts. Maybe you’ll find it inspiring. If you’re looking for a pre-owned Rolex in San Diego, give me a call. You’ll be glad you did.
