Rolex Laureate Beth Koigi

A splash of water.

Have you heard of the Rolex Awards for Enterprise? They are a part of Rolex’s very large philanthropic effort, the Perpetual Planet Initiative. The Rolex Awards for Enterprise are given to individuals who make a difference, and the things some of these people accomplish are just astounding. Their commitment to the planet and to their communities is unbelievable.

One of the most recent Laureates is Beth Koigi. She’s actually extracting water right out of the air. In the desert, no less! Water scarcity is one of the world’s most difficult problems to address. Koigi’s AWGs, atmospheric water generators, pull water right out of thin air. The units are powered by solar energy and they pull moisture from the air, filter the water, and then even add important minerals to the water.

Koigi’s company name is Majik Water. Spending a little while online just reading about this miracle company is absolutely worth the investment in time. One of the things I find most remarkable is how Koigi’s machines are placed in arid and semi-arid regions. Desert areas.

She’s making water available in the desert.

It’s like science fiction, isn’t it? I’m pretty sure Luke Skywalker’s family were moisture farmers. Now, we have real people taking moisture from the air to help humanity. I find it really breathtaking.

Beth Koigi was born in Kenya and lived in a water-rich area. When she realized that not everyone had clean water in her country, she designed a little water filtration system, selling it throughout Kenya. In the process, though, she learned more than half of Kenyans had no access to clean water. Half!

The atmosphere contains a lot of water. Scientists say it holds up to six times as much as rivers. That’s all rivers combined. The Nile. The Amazon. The Santa Ana River Lakes… all of rivers on Earth. Koigi’s AWG water units take advantage of that. Air is pulled in and water is condensed from it. It’s filtered and minerals like calcium are added. This entrepreneur is changing Kenya one arid community at a time, and I’m grateful that Rolex supports people like her.

If you’re looking for a pre-owned Rolex in San Diego, I would be very happy to help. Give me a call. If I don’t have what you’re looking for, I can probably find it.
