Rolex Chromalight

One of the things I love about Rolex is that when they aren’t happy with something, they just create their own. They created their own rose gold so they could make it what they wanted it to be. They created their own version of stainless steel and they have their own foundry for their precious metals. They like to build and develop things in house so that they can maintain strict control of the manufacturing process and the quality. Chromalight is a proprietary photoluminescent material used by Rolex in their watches. It creates a blue glow in the dark and can light up hour and minute hands or the hour marks on a dial. It's designed for long-lasting legibility. Chromalight glow can lasting up to eight hours and is more visible in low light conditions Super-LumiNova, the prior luminescent material Rolex used..
Chromalight was developed by Rolex in-house. Chromalight is composed of ultra-fine metal oxide powder. It includes aluminum, strontium, dysprosium, and europium. Ever read so many words ending in um? Seriously, though, it emits a distinctive blue light when exposed to darkness. That makes it easier to read the time in low-light environments compared to the green glow of Super-LumiNova. Since it glows for more than double the duration of Super-LumiNova, it’s not only brighter but also longer lasting. While Chromalight glows blue in the dark it has a clear white color in daylight. Applied to the hands, hour markers, and other display elements of Rolex watches, it can provide a really striking display. Rolex introduced Chromalight. That was for the Deepsea Sea-Dweller. The company has gradually expanded its use to other models including the Submariner and GMT-Master among others.
I think Chromalight is just another example of Rolex’s commitment to excellence. If you’re in the market for a pre-owned Rolex in San Diego, give me a call. Perhaps you have one you’d like to sell. Call me. I’ll look forward to hearing from you. If you like, you can simply drop by my La Jolla showroom. Reach out. You’ll be glad you did.
