Soldered Wedding Sets

Diamond engagement ring with channel set emeralds and diamons and matching wedding band soldered together on white background

Solder is a metal alloy, typically made of tin and lead, used to join other metals by melting the solder and allowing it to flow into the connection, where it solidifies to form a bond. Solder is always created of a fusible alloy. That means it has a low melting point compared to other metals. The most common solder is a mix of tin and lead. However, there are other mixes and lead-free. Some people choose to have their engagement ring and wedding band soldered together.

Solder is used to create a permanent bond between metal pieces. It is also used to create electrical connections but not in the case of jewelry, of course. I’ve seen some shocking rings in my life but not with these. Soldering is often used in jewelry. In fact, soldering is a very common technique in jewelry making and repair. It's used to join metal pieces together, creating a strong and durable connection, and you want that with jewelry. Soldering is particularly useful when joining cast pieces, repairing damaged items, or when two different types of metal need to be joined together.

And now, soldering is becoming common as a way to keep an engagement ring and wedding band together. For the most part, it’s used with bands that match completely. Each ring can be positioned perfectly in relation to the other. Soldering helps prevent spinning and reduces wear and tear on the rings. It can also display the rings in a more symmetrical look. It doesn’t work as well for rings that aren’t matched, and it also means both rings must always be worn together. Still, for perfectly matching rings, it remains a popular option these days.
