Should You Solder Your Rings Together?

One engagement ring and wedding bands for bride and groom on black background.

A lot of people choose to solder their engagement ring to their engagement ring. There are some good reasons for that. It helps prevent spinning, reduces wear and tear on both rings, and gives a more cohesive look. On the other hand, it makes it impossible to wear just one of the other, and it makes sizing more difficult.

Should you do it?

Let’s look a little more closely at things. When it comes to keeping the rings in position, soldering ensures that the rings stay aligned and don't spin around on the finger. That prevents the rings from being distracting or uncomfortable. In addition, when rings rub together, they can scratch and damage each other. Soldering prevents that. The alignment creates a look many prefer, a unified and symmetrical set. Soldering makes it easier to wear the rings together without damage or realignment.

And you know me. I always bring symbolism into things. Well, solder brings to different things together… Like love brings two different people together. Soldering can symbolize the unity and commitment of a marriage. You know I love that, right?

However…

Soldered rings can't be worn separately. That may be a disadvantage for those who want to wear the wedding band alone in certain circumstances. Perhaps when traveling, you don’t want to attract notice with an expensive and very visible diamond. Perhaps you’ll be involved in some strenuous activities and you’re afraid of one of the rings getting caught or damaged.

Also, keep in mind that once you’ve had the rings soldered, sizing them gets a lot more complicated and therefore more expensive. You’ll want to consider that before you decide to go ahead and do it.

If you’re in the market for an engagement, a wedding band, or both; I’d love to help. Give me a call. You can also just stop by our La Jolla showroom. I can promise you you’ll be glad you did.
