There are a lot of posts online suggesting now might be a good time to invest in gemstones. I don’t know how much I agree with that. In my experience, people who recommend investing in gemstones usually have gemstones to sell. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that’s always the case. I am saying, however, that gemstones are a complicated investment, and I doubt it fits into the investment strategy for most people.
Having said that, I’m not a financial advisor. I don’t have a finance or investment education, and I’m not aware of your particular situation. You should make your own decisions about investments after speaking to a professional. I’m not an expert in that area. I’m an expert in jewelry. I think that’s why I’m not the kind of person who thinks investing in gemstones is a good idea.
Okay, I got that off my chest so now here’s a quick overview for you if you ignore all that. If you are going to invest, invest in the “Big Four” gemstones. Diamond. Ruby. Sapphire. Emerald. While there are other gemstones that are popular investments, these four are the ones with the most demand and the most information available online. So, you’ll be more likely to be able to come to an informed decision that way.
I don’t like the idea of investing in gemstones because the best gemstones for investment are natural, untreated, and close to perfect. In other words, the best gemstones for investment are stones outside of the reach of most people. I love taking a gemstone that’s not too expensive and setting it in a way that mitigates its flaws so that someone who doesn’t have an enormous bank account can still have a wonderful ring. That’s why I have lab grown gems available. That’s why I’m not opposed to treatment. I don’t think jewelry should be reserved for the super wealthy because I don’t think only the super wealthy fall in love and need engagement rings.
Well, that’s my two cents. To be fair, I buy a lot of gemstones. I’m just buying them as part of my business and not as part of a financial plan. If you have loose stones or jewelry to sell, I’d love to offer you a fair price so give me a call or drop by the La Jolla showroom. You’ll be glad you did.
