The very nice lady who came to my brick and mortar showroom with a shoebox full of jewelry to sell told me that was her sister’s philosophy about marriage. When she passed away, she left jewelry to her sister and this ring was among the items. I learned the original owner met her husband in College and the two of them became very close. They came across the idea of setting expectations and responsibilities in their management courses but when they were married, they implemented them for themselves. They set some household rules that focused on constantly improving their relationship. This included keeping one night of the week that belonged only to them, never receiving phone calls at dinner and always kissing goodnight, among other things. These weren’t suggestions or options but rules, and they did them even when they were busy or stressed. There were times they felt too busy or tired to have their evening together, but they always felt wonderful doing it anyway. I thought it was a good philosophy, more about discipline than feelings. She was selling jewelry in order to begin the process of organizing her estate. I was glad to buy from her and now I’m happy I can make this lovely ring available to a new owner!😊
