Rolex is what most people bring us, but it is not the limit. Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Omega, Cartier, Vacheron, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Breitling, IWC, Tudor and good vintage from makers nobody advertises any more — if it was made properly, there is a market for it and we know where that market is.
That breadth matters when you are selling. A buyer who only deals in one brand has to discount everything else to the point where it is worth their trouble. We sell to collectors and dealers worldwide, so a watch outside the obvious names still gets priced as a watch rather than as an inconvenience.
What we look at, and what we ignore
Movement first — it is the part that is expensive to put right and the part photographs never show. Then the case: whether it has been over-polished, whether the lugs still have their edges, whether the caseback and crown belong to it. Then dial and hands, which is where originality carries the most weight, and finally bracelet, box and papers.
What we largely ignore is a scratched crystal, a tired strap, or a watch that has simply stopped. Those are bench jobs, and we have a bench.

Will you buy a watch that needs service?
Yes. Our watchmakers work in-house, so service is something we account for in the price rather than a reason to decline.
Do you buy quartz or fashion watches?
Sometimes, but honestly: many fashion-brand watches are worth little on resale regardless of what they cost new. We'll tell you that plainly rather than make an offer designed to be accepted out of disappointment.
Should I service my watch before selling it?
No. You will rarely recover what a service costs, and we would rather assess the movement as it is. Sell it as it runs.
How do I sell a watch from out of town?
If you're not in San Diego, you can start with photos. We'll give you a preliminary number, and if you'd like to go ahead you ship the piece to us insured; once our experts have inspected it and the sale is final, payment goes out right away.
